What can I use to clean car parts? Book calls for neutral mineral spirits, what is equal to this?

The car has very small, gunk filled holes that HAVE to be cleaned out. The part is aluminium so many cleaners cannot be used. Car must have this done in order to pass inspection but the regular cleaners just seem to make it worse.|||I use cheap mineral spirits from Walmart with a airsprayer hooked up to my air compressor. Then use white spirits and thoroughly dry with compressed air and wrap individual parts in glad wrap if critical parts or rags if say brake or suspension parts.
