What software package do garages use to get all your car service & parts details from just the registration?

Whenever I call a motor factor for spare parts they just ask for the registration number and they get all the details they need to find the right spares. How does this work, is there some website or software they have that gives all the car details from the reg number? And if so what is it called please?|||They all use Autocat. They ask for your reg %26amp; put it in, that in turn gives them the car details, colour, engine, chassis number etc. Then you just select which parts you want %26amp; 'it tells you' the part numbers %26amp; manufacturers. They then give you a price.|||autodata comes to mind but i think that is a breakdown view of repair charts...still its costs 拢s of pounds a year for the licence..its not something you can just buy for 拢20 on ebay...

http://www.gingercatsoftware.co.uk/ this company provides software that you are after but want 拢300 for the basic data.|||The VIN contains the make, model, year, and from that they can look up everything else in their private commercial software they lease. Companies like ADP lease it. You can as well, but it is not free or on the public internet.
